Public Relations (PR for short) aims to promote the relationship between your business and its audience groups or customers, by creating sharing pertinent and engaging information.
PR is used to inform or influence the public through text, advertisements, publicity and promotions.
In short: “Public Relations ensures that people think about the business in a certain way.”
The terms PR and Marketing are often confused.
- Public Relations; what a company undertakes to ensure that people think about the company in a certain way.
- Marketing: “That which a company does to promote the sale of products and / or services.”
Public Relations and Marketing … a golden team?
Public relations is about profiling a company image and Marketing is aimed at creating a loyal customer base and sales. There is a clear overlap between both specialisms.
You can safely assume that PR and marketing together form a golden duo. Marketing is impossible without PR and PR cannot be done without marketing. You will not get a step further if you as a company or service do not know what your commercial message is and how you can convey this.
Do you have a strategy in which it is clear what you want to communicate, to whom you want to convey the message and how you can reach these people?
A good strategy, and especially implementation, ensures success and with that extra revenue. You will have to invest in this, but it will certainly pay off.
After all, it will take you a lot of time, money and effort to reverse a wrong image.
Moreover, once you have gone the wrong way, by not using your online profiling, Public Relations and Marketing in a smart way, you will have to follow a difficult process in order to reach the right target group.
Means of communication
PR runs through different channels:
- word of mouth or buzz marketing
- media such as newspapers, radio, television
- trade shows, events, campaign conferences
- Social Media, specialized websites and the Web
PR also has a signal function to notice trends and news from the outside world and to respond adequately to this.
