Action Planning Tools: Mind Maps and Post It Notes
Mind maps and the simple Post It Note are two invaluable tools that can help clients to support action planning. They both involve the use of chunking.
Mind Maps
Mind maps can be an effective tool for analysing and capturing issues, ideas and information.
Each branch of the mind map helps clients to chunk down and to understand the relationship of each constituent part.
Mind maps enable coaches to drill down on specific issues and to develop each branch of the map into more detail.
Mind maps can be used to break a problem down and to then trigger ideas and solutions resulting in a clear, well consider plans.
More information about mind mapping can be found in High Growth Enterprise Coach Fundamental Skills Part 2.
Post It Notes
Post It Notes can be used to organise and explore the relationship of individual ideas and components.
They are easy to move from place to place and work well as part of individual and group coaching sessions.
This technique lends itself to problems involving sequencing, scheduling and more complex issues. It is often used to help managers to develop complex plans such as strategy and business plans as it connects the whole, the organisational goals, to discrete actions.
